Silence or Stand.
This piece reflects on current events resulting in an increase of hate crimes on Asian American and Pacific Islanders. As a Filipino-White American raised in a predominantly White community, I felt the need to create a piece specifically on the untrue stereotype of Asian women being silent. This is partially a self-portrait and also works as a social commentary on what the AAPI community faces everyday as a whole. I hope to share perspective with others through this piece and to encourage Asian women to defy harmful stereotypes and stand against racial inequality.
